Leather and Kydex, the Perfect Blend: Comp-Tac Infidel Ultra Review

Time came to add a new conceal carry option.  That new option requires a good concealed carry holster, and to meet my demands, I turned to one of my previous holster manufacturers, Comp-Tac.  I previously reviewed the Minotaur MTAC from Comp-Tac, which was an excellent holster.  While browsing their options, I noticed they recently released the Infidel Ultra and I took the plunge.

The Infidel Ultra, like the Minotaur is a hybrid holster, bringing the best of leather and Kydex together.

Infidel Ultra with Springfield XD Sub Compact
The leather affords the wearer a comfortable barrier between your skin and the Kydex.  The benefit of Kydex is the formed plastic allows for easy re-holstering.  Comp-Tac's Infidel has adjustable tension hex-screws to adjust the retention on your firearm to your preference, and they supply the hex key!  The benefit of the Infidel Ultra over the Minotaur is that it is designed to allow you to easily put on and take off the holster with little difficulty, having one belt loop attachment.  The Minotaur required release of two loop attachments to remove the holster.  So, if you need to be able to frequently remove your holster, this makes for a great holster.

The holster is sturdy, constructed out of 0.090" Kydex, which allows for a low profile plastic that is easily concealable, yet strong enough to endure some abuse.  When ordering you can specify the belt size you wish to accommodate, 1.5" or 1.75" width, available for right or left handed shooters, and available for a large variety of popular firearm models.

I couldn't be more pleased with this holster for my EDC firearm, and will have this IWB in my holster rotation for the duration.  The holster is reasonably priced at $88, and can be found at the Comp-Tac website. Their turn-around time is excellent, usually within 4-5 days and they send constant updates about your order.

I continue to sing Comp-Tac's praises...get one, I think you will too.

  2. Amber- Go here: http://www.comp-tac.com/product_info.php?products_id=261

Then scroll down to "Choose Your Options." It appears they do make it for a Beretta PX4 Storm Sub Compact, and they do make it for the S&W M&P 9/40/357, M&P Compact 9/40/357 and M&P Shield.

If you order from them...let them know I sent you!

  3. I recently ordered this holster. Can't wait until it arrives. I am also a Comp-tac satisfied customer and saw this option when I went to order a new holster for my PPQ. I am excited because I couldn't decide between the all kydex one with the one belt clip or the minotaur.

    1. John,

Awesome! I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. I have found that the Infidel Ultra is a better holster for me than the Minotaur as I have to un-holster so much during my work day.

I hope you enjoy it...let me know what you think when you get it in your hands! Two thumbs up for Comp-Tac!!

  4. I found this review trying to decide between the minotaur and the infidel ultra. Almost 2 months after the review, which one do you prefer and why? Thanks in advance!

    1. After having owned and worn both for substantial amounts of time, I prefer the Minotaur. Although a little more difficult to take on and off, I feel that it conceals easier than the Infidel. The Infidel is bulkier due to the placement of the clip. The Minotaur also is adjustable for deeper concealment when I prefer.

      I hope that helps!

  6. I bought the infidel ultra shortly after reading the above review along with a few others. It is a comfortable holster but the Infidel clip is definitely bulkier than I had hoped. It adds about an extra 1/4 inch and grabs my belt awkwardly. I switched to the double belt-loop design, which slims it down to my liking -- its not as easy to get on and off now, but I'm satisfied.

  7. Hey just wanted to ask a quick question. Does the leather cover the magazine release?

    1. Thanks for the question! No, neither the leather or kydex covers the mag release on either side of the pistol.
